Mental Health Lessons From Wicked

Madame Morrible: The Architect of Labels 🧙‍♀️

Madame Morrible is the voice of authority that decides who is “Good” and who is “Wicked”, not based on truth, but on what serves her power.

She assigns narratives, controls perception, and shapes public opinion with confidence and certainty. Her strength isn’t magic, it’s influence.

The Reality:
Many of us carry labels given to us by bosses, parents, teachers, or society at large. “Too much.” “Difficult.” “Not enough.” These labels often say more about the system that assigned them than the person who wears them.

Boq: The Cost of People-Pleasing 💔

Boq spends his life trying to earn affection from people who don’t truly see him. He bends himself into what he thinks others want until there’s nothing left.

In the end, he quite literally loses his heart.

The Reality:
When we consistently ignore our own needs to meet others’ expectations, we slowly hollow ourselves out. People-pleasing may feel like connection, but it often leads to resentment, exhaustion, and emotional numbness.

Fiyero: The Mask of Indifference 🕺

Fiyero “dances through life,” refusing depth, commitment, or stillness. On the surface, he seems carefree and detached, but beneath that ease is fear.

If he stops moving, he might have to feel.

The Reality:
Sometimes acting like you don’t care is a survival strategy for caring too deeply. Indifference can be armor, protecting a sensitive core that never felt safe being seen.

Pfannee: The Mask of Perfection 👑

Pfannee curates flawlessness. Every gesture, word, and reaction is calculated to maintain status and belonging. The fear isn’t failure, it’s rejection.

One mistake could cost everything.

The Reality:
Perfectionism often isn’t about excellence. It’s about survival. When love feels conditional, performing “perfectly” can feel like the only way to stay safe.

Don’t Walk the Road Alone

Life can be wicked, but healing doesn’t happen in isolation.

If any of these patterns resonate, you don’t have to carry them by yourself. Find your “village” in a ShareWell peer support session and talk it through with people who understand.

Because being seen, without labels, masks, or perfection, is where healing begins. 💛
